Geographx coordinated the cartographic production of the EARTH Platinum World Atlas, recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest atlas printed and awarded the International Map Trade Association’s 2013 Global Award for Best Map Product. The company developed natural-colour New Zealand basemaps and a public-domain terrain model that its site reports has passed 375,000 LINZ Data Service downloads.
Its cartographic work also included distributing Skyline earth-visualisation software in New Zealand. In 2015 Smith curated the National Library’s Unfolding the Map exhibition, which ran into early 2018. He received the New Zealand Spatial Excellence Award for outstanding contribution in 2017; Geographx continues as a publisher of wilderness and backcountry maps.
